Code of Conduct


soccer_05Huntsville National League believes that children deserve to have fun in a safe and caring environment. Please pledge to do everything you can to make this possible for all the children in our program.

Parents – Code of Conduct
1.  As a parent I will provide positive support and encouragement for my child.
2.  I will place the physical and emotional well being of my child ahead of any personal desire to win.
3.  I will insist that my child play in a safe and healthy environment
4.  I will provide support for coaches and officials working with my child to provide a fun experience for all.
5.  I will demand a drug & alcohol free environment for my child and I will not use or allow use of such substances at any game or
6.  I will remember that not all children are gifted with the same athletic ability but all benefit from encouragement and practice.
7.  I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child.
8.  I will ask my child to treat other players, coaches, fans and officials with respect.
9.  I will make sure that my child arrives at practice and games on time.

Players – Code of Conduct
1.  As a player I will do my very best to listen and learn from my coaches.
2.  I will treat my coaches with respect and I will expect to be treated accordingly.
3.  I will encourage good sportsmanship from my teammates, coaches, parents and officials at every practice and game.
4.  I will attend all practices and games that I can and notify my coach if I cannot.
5.  I will expect to receive a fair amount of playing time.
6.  I will remember that the main goal is to learn and have fun and will let my parents and coaches know if it stops being fun.
7.  I expect to play in an alcohol, tobacco and drug free environment and expect adults to comply.
Coaches – Code of Conduct
1.  As a coach I will provide positive support and encouragement for all players.
2.  I will plan for all practices and games.
3.  I will welcome other coaches, parents, and players.
4.  I will listen to players and discuss player progress with parents.
5.  I will be courteous to umpires.
6.  I will know emergency procedures and put players safety first.
7.  I will know and understand the rules for the age group in which I coach.
8.  I will not use profanity or threatening behavior when coaching.
9.  I will support the rules and regulations of Huntsville National League and McGucken Park Department.


Huntsville National League Parent/Player Code of Conduct Agreement

  1. If I (and my guests) have an issue with a coach, I will discuss the issue with the coach or assistant coach, before practice/game or after practice/game.
    1. If the issue cannot be resolved through normal communication or correspondence, I will contact the Sports President and they will work for a resolution.
  2. I (and my guests) will respect the coaches and officials authority and will never question, discuss, or confront them on the field or during a practice or HNL event.
  3. I know that my child is expected to be at each practice setup by the head coach.
    1. Excessive absences from practice can result in your child not being able to participate in the next game. This will be at the discretion of the Head Coach.
      1. If your child is not going to be present at practice or a game, please call or email the coach to let them know.
      2. Illness, family emergency or obligations, obligations for school or church are understood and excused.
      3. Missing practices and only showing up for games will not be tolerated.
    2. Unexcused absences from practice may result in the following, but is at the discretion of the Head Coach
      1. Unexcused Absence #1: Extra conditioning
      2. Unexcused Absence #2: Mandatory play cut in half for the next scheduled game
      3. Unexcused Absence #3:   Mandatory play eliminated for the next scheduled game (player will not dress in uniform for game)
  1. I (and my guests) will promote the emotional and physical well-being of all HNL participants ahead of any personal desire to win.
  2. I will remember that my child plays Sports for his/her enjoyment, not mine.
  3. I (and my guests) will encourage good sportsmanship through words and actions and will demonstrate positive support for all players, coaches and officials at every practice, game or other HNL event.
  4. I (and my guests) will demand that my child treat all players, coaches, officials, parents and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
  5. I (and my guests) will treat all players, coaches, officials, parents and spectators with dignity through positive language, attitude, behavior, and mannerisms.
  6. I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and/or taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.
  7. I (and my guests) will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
  8. I (and my guests) will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.
  9. I (and my guests) will never ridicule or yell at my child or any other HNL participant for making a mistake or losing a competition.
  10. I (and my guests) agree not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while on HNL property or while watching any HNL event.
  11. I (and my guests) agree that being involved in any activity that would warrant the summoning of law enforcement officials will subject me to discipline by HNL.
  12. I (and my guests) agree that making physical contact with any coach, player, official or other HNL representative will result in expulsion from HNL.
  13. I agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to Disciplinary action which could include, but is not limited to the following:
    1. Verbal warning by any HNL official, board member, coach, and /or other HNL representative
    2. Written warning
    3. Parental game suspension with written documentation of incident kept on file with HNL
    4. Excessive failures can result in:
      • Parental season suspension
      • Child’s game forfeit
      • Child’s season suspension

Note: if these codes are broken, the board reserves the right to take corrective actions
